Bamboo Is An Environmental Expert That Needs To Be Reused

First, bamboo growth can fix carbon dioxide in the air, reducing the total amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. From bamboo shoots breaking the ground to grow into Hsinchu with an average height of 10 to 30 meters, it takes only 2 to 3 months, and the carbon sequestration potential is large. And bamboo's carbon sequestration is far better than trees.

Generally speaking, trees need to grow for at least ten years before they can be harvested, but bamboo is mature in four to six years and can be harvested. One study estimated that a hectare of bamboo and its products could store 306 tons of carbon over 60 years, while a hectare of Chinese fir forest could store 178 tons of carbon over the same period.

Second, making bamboo into daily necessities can store carbon stably and avoid rapid release into nature. Bamboo is made into durable crafts, flooring, building materials, etc., and can store large amounts of carbon. In terms of carbon sequestration process, bamboo has a negative carbon footprint compared to conventional building materials such as steel and plastic (shown in the figure). In other words, bamboo products not only do not emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, but also reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The more bamboo is used compared to other high-emission building materials, the greater its contribution to mitigating global climate change.
