What Are The Characteristics Of Bamboo As A Bamboo Building Material?

Under the huge impact of the global green ecological trend, bamboo as a modern building material has been increasingly valued by people. my country's unique bamboo resources have laid a solid material foundation for the development of the bamboo industry. Bamboo has the following advantages in the application of the construction industry:

1. Compared with other building materials such as stone, brick, concrete, steel and other non-renewable mineral resources, bamboo is an excellent renewable resource. Generally, it can be made into material in 3~5 years. As long as it is reasonably mined and planted, it can be reused sustainably. With the development of the bamboo processing industry, many fast-growing materials can also be used in building structures, greatly shortening the reproduction cycle.

2. In the manufacturing process of traditional building materials, nearly 10 billion tons of mineral resources are consumed each year, and 15% of the country's total energy consumption is also consumed, causing serious resource shortages and environmental pollution. As a building material, bamboo consumes much less energy and pollution during construction than brick, stone and concrete buildings, and is a very good green material. From the comparison of the environmental impact of the life cycle of building materials in Table 2, it can be seen that bamboo has a smaller impact on the environment in terms of energy utilization and air and water pollution.

3. Bamboo has good toughness, and bamboo-structured houses are light in weight, so they absorb relatively less seismic force during earthquakes. Even if the overall structure is deformed in a strong earthquake, it will not fall apart or collapse. It is reported that in the 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Costa Rica in 1991, a large number of brick and reinforced concrete buildings collapsed, while the 30 bamboo houses at the epicenter were safe and sound.

4. Bamboo has a small thermal conductivity. Generally, the thermal conductivity of bamboo is about 0.30W/m•k, and it has good thermal insulation performance. To achieve the same thermal insulation effect, the thickness of bamboo needs to be 1/15 of that of concrete and 1/400 of that of steel; under the same thickness conditions, the thermal insulation value of bamboo is 16 times higher than that of standard concrete and 400 times higher than that of steel. In addition, the annual average humidity range of bamboo structure buildings is maintained between 60% and 80%, which is closest to the relative humidity of about 60% in the best living environment.

5. Bamboo structures and supporting components are easy to be finalized and standardized, and the factory prefabrication and on-site assembly construction of components are realized. There are fewer wet operations on site and the construction speed is fast, which can greatly improve the investment efficiency of funds, realize the integration, industrialization and industrialization of residential building technology, and improve the scientific and technological content of housing.

6. Compared with traditional structural materials, bamboo artificial board structural materials have the characteristics of high strength, good toughness, high rigidity, small deformation, stable size and excellent performance. It has advantages in characteristics, structural materials, environmental benefits, and use functions, design, construction and comprehensive economy in residential buildings.
